BGCSV College Scholarship Recipients
Summary: 2010 Boys & Girls Club College Scholarships awards go to....
Here are the BGCSV college scholarship recipients:

Minigan Family Scholarship awarded to Prisila Alvarez.
Prisila is a long time member of the Club. First joining as an elementary student, she spent most of her time in the Learning Center completing her homework with Penny. During her middle school years at the Club, Prisila spent many afternoons with Dwayne in the gym. It was there that she developed her passion for running. Prisila continued that passion into high school where she became a member of the Cross County Team and the Varsity Track Team. Throughout her high school years, Prisila volunteered over 100 hours with the younger members at the Club helping to build their reading and math skills. Her goal was to give something back to the Club and to help create a strong foundation for other teens as she feels the Club did for her. Attending St. Mary’s in the fall, Prisila has not yet declared a major, but knows it will come from her interest in art, business, politics and Chicano Studies. One of her plans after college is to return to her hometown of Echo Park and create a foundation to help out the disadvantaged in her local neighborhood.

Stash Scholarship #1 Awarded to Jennifer Rivas.
Jennifer is a long time member of the Club, beginning as an elementary student. She initally spent her time participating in arts, sports and completing her homework. After a break during middle school, Jennifer returned to the Club as a teen. She first returned to complete volunteer hours for school and quickly became involved in the Keystone Club, which she credits as having provided her great opportunities to expand her horizons. Jennifer will attend the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco. She hopes to one day be a Product Developer and even own her own boutique.

Stash Scholarship #2 Awarded to Ricki McCarthy
Ricki first came to the Club as a 1st grader and credits the staff members with helping to develop her into the person she is today. Throughout her elementary school years Ricki spent most of her time in the art room where she says she learned about creativity. She fondly recalls spending time each afternoon playing chess with Stash after finishing her homework with Penny. As a teen, Ricki returned to the Club as a volunteer with a goal of gaining experience working with elementary age children. In the fall Ricki will begin at Sonoma State University and plans to live on campus. Her goal is to obtain her bachelor’s degree in education and one day become an elementary or special education teacher.
