Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley was awarded a Branch Out Grant in the amount of $2500 to conduct GIS Day 2009 from the Community Foundation of Sonoma County’s Sonoma Valley Fund.

In collaboration with the US Forest Service, and Sonoma Ecology Center, the Boys & Girls
Club will celebrate and host the Ninth Annual Worldwide GIS Day, a day of education about
GIS, or Geographic Information Systems, on November 19th. Last year’s event drew 200 middle school kids and over 150 primary school aged children at the Maxwell Farms Park
Clubhouse.consisted of presentations, demonstrations and hands on experiences all based on education about GIS using real world applications of the technology. Representatives from the US Forest Service and Sonoma Ecology Center were on hand to promote awareness of open space and conservation.
